The Producers Conference, Paris, France

The June tour of European Producer Conferences, was rounded off in Paris where Propellerhead's French distributor M-Audio, carried out a full seated Saturday night event.

ParisDown town at Les Voûtes St Honoré the crowd enjoyed presentations by Félix Sabal-Lecco, DJ Armand, DJ Kush and James Bernard.

Doing The Producer Conference in partnership with Digidesign, the venue offered a work station set up with Pro Tools and Reason in Rewire mode. Here product specialist Jacques runs a demonstration.

Felix Sabal Lecco started off together with sound engineer Philippe Brun. They demoed Reason Drum Kits using Pro Tools rewired with Reason, triggered by Félix playing electronic drums.

DJ Armand gave a workshop about how to use Reason while being on the move (on a train/plane/tour bus), when space is an issue and your computer is the the only available equipment. Armand showed how to create a sequence with the Reason Matrix devise and then use the track to trigger other several modules, for instance NNXT. He used the Dr Rex ³to track² function and then redirected the output from that sequencer track to devices other than the original Dr Rex.

Between workshops, attendees mingled in the bar over free drinks and food.

Next session by DJ Kush focused on Recycle and Dr Rex. Kush started off playing the original funk & soul track he wanted to sample. He then chopped it up in Recycle and built his track on the main verse and chorus slices. DJ Kush took listeners through the three phases in his work on the song, right down to the mastering stage.

Finally, James Bernard gave a workshop on "Alternative ways of using Reason Devices." In his Combinator Refill package called the Multiband Toolbox, James used BV512 Vocoder units to divide the audio frequency spectrum into different ranges and create various audio processing effects. He also briefly presented the Abbey Road Keyboards Refill and played one of the demo songs.

The show was so well attended that we ran out of space. Luckily this was anticipated and we sent a live feed to a screen in the less crowded bar room, where attendees could follow the presentations.
